Ilfracombe Travel Guide

In the summer months the M.S. Oldenburg sails from
the harbour to the remote National Trust managed Lundy Island. The unique Tunnels Beaches accessed through
tunnels hewn beneath the cliffs lead to the town’s fine beaches and rock pools;
nearby Hele Bay is another popular beach spot. For a more adventurous foray the
Spectacular Torrs
Walks following the coastal footpath are amongst the best walks in the
country. The town centre of Ilfracombe still retains an old world charm whilst
combining all the conveniences of modern life. There are a good range of shops
from the usual ‘high street’ big names to small individual craft, gift and
antique shops. The town’s award winning Museum houses an
interesting array of local documents, photos and artefacts outlining the areas
rich maritime and rural history. The Landmark Theatre,
looking not unlike a small group of unfinished cooling towers, is the town’s
major arts and entertainment complex, staging an impressive year round
programme of events. Local seafood features on many of the town’s restaurant
menus as well as culinary offerings from many other popular cuisines. There are
pubs
a plenty throughout the town especially around the harbour.
