Keswick Travel Guide

The pretty market town has much to recommend in itself too. This is Beatrix
Potter land and if you visit the stately homes of Lingholm and Fawe, whose
estates occupy most of the western side of Derwentwater, you’ll discover many
places inspired the world famous children’s writer. The proximity of
substantial black lead deposits at Seathwaite in the 16th century
led to the towns major industry becoming pencil manufacturing. This is still
the case today and you can check out the history at The Pencil Museum. With so many famous
writers and artists attracted to the town and surrounding area, Coleridge, Wordsworth, Walpole its not surprising
that Kendal also prides itself on its artistic heritage.
The two main attractions for those looking for something more cultural are the Theatre By The Lake and the Museum and Art Gallery.
The town also has a bustling centre with many restaurants
and pubs
in which to relax and reflect on your day’s experiences.
