Morocco Travel Guide

Located on the westernmost tip of North Africa, bordering Algeria, Mauritania, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and the Mediterranean to the north, is the enchanting country of Morocco. It is the gateway between Europe and Africa and has a rich and colourful history which is best illustrated in it's four imperial cities, Fez, Marrakesh, Meknes and Rabat. Roman ruins, Islamic monuments, architectural masterpieces and a mosaic of mosques, gardens, storytellers and healers can be found in Morocco's urban centres. The countryside holds a different allure, featuring the Atlas Mountain range, woodlands, small lakes, Western Sahara desert region and areas abundant in rare plant and bird species. With extensive beaches covering the Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines, sand is another mark on Morocco that attracts visitors. With the variety of landscapes and attractions, Morocco is sure to tickle all of the senses.
Step into Fez and Meknes and step into a time-warp back to the Middle Ages. Contributing heavily to Morocco’s allure, the cultural mosaics of the Imperial cities Fez and Meknes are the ultimate examples of days gone by. Meknes, the quieter of the two cities houses the most impressive gateways in Morocco, the Babel-Mansour where you will embark on a journey through Moulay Ismail’s huge palace complex. Fez, the oldest of the Imperial cities has retained a distinctly Arab identity and is home to the medina of Fesel-Bali, one of the oldest medieval cities in the world. Wander through the labyrinth of an estimated 9400 streets and lanes that wind and twist through Fes el-Bali. If you can find your way out of the maze, Kairaouuine Mosque & University, the Museum of Moroccan Art, and the Merenid Tombs are other subtle highlights to be explored.
The magic of Marrakech, the hypnotic, imperial city of Morocco is captured in the city’s rich culture. This is best illustrated by tribal singing filling the air, architectural masterpieces decorating the streets and the aroma of exotic spices entertaining your nostrils. There is a veritable mosaic of mosques, gardens, storytellers, healers, dye merchants and the lanterns lighting up Jemaa el Fna Square create an altogether ethereal atmosphere. Pick up a love potion from a local potion vendor, get your fortunes told and dig into some street food as you witness the last rays of the day cast a red shadow over the city. It really doesn’t get any more mystical than this!
