Windermere

Of course the main attraction in Bowness is the Lake itself and there are plenty of opportunities for boat trips to be enjoyed. The town itself has numerous great pubs and restaurants but can become extremely busy during the day when locals come to shop and visitors arrive in droves for a day out.

Other towns in the area include Ambleside, which is slightly quieter and somewhat more laid back. You’ll find the National Park Visitor Centre at nearby Brockhole and if you tire of the crowds but still want to shop, drink or eat you can also catch the car ferry from just south of Bowness to the lovely towns of Sawery and Hawkshead.
