Albania - Berat

Albania sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

A significant historic town, Berat, 76 miles from Tirana, known as 'the city of a thousand windows' due to its many windows in its red-roofed houses, is an area full of fascinating features. Along the towns border, above the ravine is a 14th century fortress, which outsizes the smaller Orthodox churches including the Church of the Evangelists, the Church of the Holy Trinity and the Orthodox Cathedral of Our Lady. There is also the historic district of Mangalem and a magnificent seven-arched stone bridge, which leads to Gorica, the Christian sector. Berat also has many grand mosques, such as the King's Mosque, the Bachelor's Mosque and the Leaden Mosque.
