The prettiest town in Albania, Kukės, 60 miles north east of Tirana, is situated high above Lake Fierza, just under the 8154 ft summit of Mount Gjalica. This old town was once at the junction of two rivers, the Black Drin from Lake Ohrid and the White Drin from Kosovo, but in the early 1960s, Kukės was moved to where it is today, due to the building of a hydroelectric dam. Visitors will enjoy spending a few days in the town and will find the hotels at very good standards with restaurants available to cater for everyones tastes. Theres even the chance to do a bit of mountain trekking whilst in the area,,,make sure to bring some proper hiking gear though, as hiking shops are pretty much non-existent!
