The English Harbour in Antigua was used as a garrisoned station in the early part of the 18th century but fell into decay in 1889. The harbour began a restoration period in 1951 and reopened as Nelson’s Dockyard in 1961, an area which contains two 18th century hotels, restaurants and craft shops. The harbour’s dockyard is popular for yachts and serves as the headquarters for the yearly Sailing Week Regatta. The dockyard also has a national park, where visitors can walk down one of the areas nature trails to beaches, hilltop forts and rock pools.
