The Frigate Bird Sanctuary, situated in the Codrington Lagoon, in Barbuda, takes forty minutes by boat where visitors will view many birds including the beautiful Frigate bird, a sea bird-of-prey, that is unable to land on water, and will either fish on the surface or steal other seabirds’ catches! Visitors are best coming in the mating season from September to April, when this rare bird displays its red breast to attract the female mate, which will lay one egg on a nest built very unsteadily on the mangrove. These birds have few predators and the nesting site is one of the most important in the world for this endangered species of bird.
