Visitors need to take a 10-minute walk up Tsitsernakaberd’s mountain to reach the Genocide Memorial, built in commemoration to the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide, committed by the Turks in 1915. The monument is made up of twelve plaques, representing the twelve Duchies, with ancient Armenian tunes being played around a never-ending flame. Next door to the monument is the Genocide Museum, where visitors can gain knowledge about the life of the Armenian people, past and present.
