Covering an area of approximately 1800sq km The Hohe Tauern National Park is one of the few large European mountain environments that remain untouched by human influence. Although the landscape is on the whole allowed to develop naturally there are small communities that have learned to live in complete harmony with their surroundings with traditionally cultivated alpine meadows integrated into the Park with the least possible with little if any interference. This remarkable area of peaks, cliffs, glaciers and alpine grasslands is a truly breathtaking spectacle.
