Bahamas - Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, Staniel Cay (include diving Thunderball Grotto)

Comprised of 176 sq miles of fine bays and remarkable marine environments, Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park was the first of the Caribbean’s marine fishery reserves to be inaugurated (1958) and has since gained a reputation as one of the top destinations in the world for sailing, scuba diving and snorkelling. Within the waters the wealth and variety of marine life is nothing short of mind-boggling and the choice of dives available superb – caves, wrecks, step dives, you name it.

Probably the most famous dive is at Staniel Cay itself where the underwater caves with their natural skylights and friendly fish can become eerily familiar. It was here back in 1965 that they filmed the classic James Bond movie Thunderball; indeed the area is now often referred to as Thunderball Grotto (there’s marketing for you). It’s not surprising that Hollywood discovered the place and has embraced it as a favourite location (Splash and Never Say Never Again are amongst the other movies filmed here) it has become a favourite with keen yachtsmen, amongst them many of the rich and famous, and has often been described as ‘the world's most picturesque yachting grounds.’
