Situated around 70 miles north of the Tropic of Cancer, Fernandez Bay is one of the most popular destinations of Cat Island. As remote an area as you’ll find that actually has tourist facilities it is picture postcard perfect in every way. Long, white sand beaches are fringed by casuarinas trees and lush vegetation; the warm, clear, turquoise water offers untold treasures and there are countless havens of peace and absolute solitude. You can spend your days swimming or surfing, stretching out in a hammock in the shade of the trees or exploring the incredible natural beauty of the island by foot.
The locals, like most Bahamians, are friendly and hospitable. Incredibly, Obeah (a form of voodoo) is still widely practiced, as is the practice of pagan medicine. But don’t expect to walk into too many ritual sacrifices and hypnotic dance parties, Fernandez Bay keeps the excitement safely on the back burner… this is the ultimate chill-out destination, no crowds, no traffic, no discos, no stress, no TV… Just Paradise!
