Built by 19th century rubber barons the City is completely surrounded by the rich green vegetation of the forest, which is fed and watered by the 4,000mile river. Despite its remoteness it still boasts palaces, a market place, bustling duty free shopping, international airport and the famous Manaus Opera House.
