Vancouver - Gastown

Vancouver sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

When "Gassy Jack" Deighton received a saloon permit in 1869, the village of Vancouver was born. Today a statue of the city’s founding father overlooks Maple Street Square in the rejuventated neighbourhood known as Gastown. Obviously it is the oldest part of the city lending itself to beautiful Victorian architecture, quaint cafes and interesting little shops. Gastown is also known as the birthplace of indie rock in Western Canada. A visit to the legendary Town Pump is a must for any music lover.
