Santiago - Touring the Wineries
Santiago sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide
Chileans have been producing wine in bulk since the late 19th century, using predominantly French methods and grapes of French origin. The excellent conditions for growing vines mean that there is rarely (if ever) a bad year and the wines produced are, on the whole, excellent (and cheap). The suburbs of Santiago are home to many vineyards, amongst them some of the best in the country. A visit to one of these wineries includes a tour of the vineyards and production areas where one is treated to an in depth enological talk on the history and development of the processes involved. Of course the high point for most visitors is the wine tasting which ends the tour.
