It is not only the best, quickest and most scenic way of getting between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, but also the cheapest. The Star Ferry has been in operation since 1898 and takes around 7 or 8 minutes to cross. From the ferry you get excellent views of the magnificent harbour as well as close ups of harbour traffic from red sailed junks and hydrofoils to oil tankers and luxury cruisers. The ferry runs regularly from 6.30am to 11.30pm and costs HK$1.70 for the upper deck and HK$1.40 for the lower deck.
