Cyprus - Pafos

A pleasant region containing little souvenir shops and the Saranta Kolones, a fortress that was virtually demolished by the country’s 13th century earthquake. Among its remains are a number of columns and sewer tunnels. A fascinating area is the Tombs of the Kings, where a maze of tombs resides, all of which have been carved into the rock of the sea-cliff. The area also has some very old 3rd century mosaics, which were made as floors for the Roman aristocracy. The mosaics were discovered in 1962 and newer digs have now found Roman buildings that stretch over 980 square feet.
