The Tivoli Gardens is a magical place that could have sprung right out of a tale by Hans Christian Andersen himself. By day, they are a paradise of fragrant flowers, but by night the gardens metamorphose into a fairy tale amusement park over 100yrs old. Originally built by the King of Denmark to quell a popular uprising, this huge amusement park was placed right in the heart of this pulsating metropolis. The Gardens are full of old and wonderful rides and entertainments where there is always something going on. To be precise, there are a staggering 37 restaurants, 26 rides and more than 400,000 flowers. Brimming with circus performers, and constantly hosting concerts and children's theatre, there is never a dull moment, especially not when darkness descends and 110,000 incandescent lamps light up night sky. There is even a breathtaking fireworks display twice a week. Open in between April and September, the Copenhagen Card gives free admission to Tivoli – don’t miss it.
