The richly carved façade of La Compania is considered the most ornate in all Ecuador making the church the most impressive monument in the Quito. Within the church walls the lavish interior is a blaze of golden altars and gilded columns. It is said that it took over seven tons of gold to complete the buildings extensive gilding. Building started in 1605 but the church did not see completion for some 163 years. Designed with a Moorish influence La Compania is the resting place for Mariana de Jesus, Quito’s patron saint.
