One of the modern attractions of Cairo the National Cultural Centre and Opera House opened its doors in 1988 as a replacement for the original Opera House which burned down in the late forties. Widely considered a masterpiece of Islamic design, it was in fact created by a team of both Egyptian and Japanese architects. The seven-storey complex is comprised of 3 theatres, rehearsal halls, a museum and library and with technical support from state-of-the-art audiovisual systems.
