Built from casing-stone taken from the Great pyramid, the Mosque of Sultan Hassan was constructed during the mid 14th century and is considered the most compact and unified of all Cairo’s myriad monuments. The Mosque also includes the famous madrasa or school which was included so each of the main four Orthodox Muslim sects had its own school connected to a common place of worship. This spectacular structure with is unevenly positioned minarets is considered the finest example of early Mamluk architecture in the City.
