Like its nearest neighbour Finland, Estonia enjoys the summers, during which darkness is a rare thing. Obviously this results in longer periods of activity for the locals and in the capital, Tallinn, Town Hall Square has long been the traditional summer gathering place for locals and tourists alike during this time of year. The square dates back to the 11th century, with pride of place taken by the 15th century town hall itself, the oldest surviving gothic town hall in Europe. Throughout the summer people gather around the square and meet in the countless restaurants, bars and cafes that surround it. Hey, why go home until it’s dark?
