Toompea’s most impressive monument is the Alexandr Nevsky Cathedral, a Russian Orthodox cathedral built in the completed in 1900 and named after the duke who attacked southeastern Estonia and Pskov in the early 13th century. The cathedral was commissioned by Tsar Alexader III and designed by Petersburg master Mikhail Preobrzhensky in 1894. Legend holds that its structural problems are caused by the fact it is built on the grave of Estonian hero Kalevipoeg. Open 08:00 - 19:00.
