Faeroe Islands sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

Mykines Island contains only one small village, where around 18 inhabitants live in pretty, colourful houses with turf roofs. The area is great for hiking, especially Lundaland, an islet on Mykineshólmur, connecting to the main island by a footbridge, with stunning scenery and some amazing bird life including the beautiful Puffin. An intriguing little creature, which in the summer has yellow eyes with a red ring, a red bill with yellow base, large webbed feet and black and white face. In winter though, the puffin changes colour, to an all grey with a dull reddish bill! There’s also the chance to climb to the islands peak, which is 1837 feet high, providing panoramic views of the region. Another area for hikers to visit, whilst on the island is Steinskógurin or 'the Stone Forest', a good walk, which is found in the valley Korkadalur.
