The Falkland Islands’ oldest settlement, dating back to the French establishment of the district, Port Louis contains some of the island’s oldest structures. The town's 19th-century farmhouse is still inhabited by farmhands and the ruins of the French governor's house are located close by. Port Louis can be found at the deepest most position of the Berkeley Sound region, an inlet on East Falkland, twenty-two miles from Stanley. Visitor can easily get to and from Port Louis by private vehicle.
