Stanley is the capital of the Falkland Islands, a village-sized place that got its fame due to acquiring political status. Many of the town’s abodes and trading buildings were built from local quarried stone and the timber used was recovered from actual shipwrecks. The area is quite eccentric with its brightly painted houses, huge kitchen gardens and tumbledown look! The most photographed landmark in Stanley is the Government House, home of the Falkland islands' London-appointed governors since the 1850’s. The Christ Church Cathedral is situated close by and is also colourfully painted with stained-glass windows and contains many Falkland’s war plaques, to honour the dead.
