Fiji - Experience a ‘meke’ and an island feast

Fiji sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

For a taste of ‘real’ Fiji don’t miss an opportunity to visit a traditional Fijian village and take part in a ‘lovo’ and ‘meke’ feast. A lovo is an old customary Fijian feast where sensational island dishes are cooked in an underground oven. Some of the dishes appearing on the lovo menu will include baked fish with various spices, sweet potato in coconut cream and peppered taro. Of course this will all be topped off with a ceremonial cup of kava. Following the glorious feast will be a ‘meke’, a song and dance routine of colourful costumes, vibrant beats and mesmerizing smiles. This is Fiji at its finest so don’t miss it.
