As the one major landmark that symbolises Paris, the Eiffel Tower is a world-renowned monument. Built in 1889 as the centrepiece of the Universal Exposition celebrating the hundredth anniversary of the French Revolution, the 1,050ft tower now receives approximately 6 million visitors per year. Climb this amazing structure for fabulous views of the city, by using the old spiral staircase or the restored hydraulic lifts. The first level is stunning in itself, but for a really breath-taking panorama, head straight for the top.
