Berlin - Brandenburg Gate

Berlin sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

Ironically built as a symbol of peace by Friedrich Willhelm II it remained firmly locked when it became incorporated into the Berlin Wall. Constructed between 1788 & 1791 in neo-classical style by German Architect Carl Gotthard von Langhams it was inspired by the Propylea (ceremonial entrance to Athens’ Acropolis). Situated in the centre of Berlin at the east end of the Tiergarten it now stands at the City’s centre, a symbol of reformation.
