The ‘English Garden’, Europe’s largest municipal park lying on the banks of the River Isar is a luscious verdant expanse in the middle of a city. The park is like a bizarre version of paradise with plenty of sun to boot. There is a free for all on nudity, African drummers, and an idyllic boating lake where you can rent boats and relax on the water. There are four beer gardens, a riding trail, and a scattering of architectural monuments peppered throughout the park. The park contains the biggest beer garden in the world – the Chinesischer Turm (Chinese Tower), infamous for its free-spirited ambience encapsulating the very essence of Munich. It’s even possible to take in the panoramic views of the park and city from the Greek temple of Monopteros on top of the highest hill in the park. A veritable Eden within the city filled with music, drink and plenty of fun.
