Munich - The Schwabing District

Munich sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

The bohemian district of Schwabing has been Munich’s magnet for artists, actors and writers since the 1920s. Very similar to the ambience of Greenwich Village in New York, it is famed for its fantastic shopping, cafés and stalls along the Leopoldstrasse. Munich’s finest examples of art-nouveau architecture can be found in this district, once home to many literary figures such as Thomas Mann. There are a number of small theatres and a clutch of trendy bars for all the bright young things to gather. A definite must for any budding bohemian.
