Germany - The Black Forest – Not a gateaux in sight

Germany sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

Comprising two densely-wooded ranges, the Feldberg and the Grand Ballon, the spectacular Black Forest stretches 170 kms/106 miles, from Karlsruhe in the north to Basle in the south. The Black Forest is undeniably one of the most beautiful holiday regions of Germany. Dense and vast, the forest is crossed with valleys, namely Gutachal and Wutachschlucht and is the archetypal alpine experience. Full of pine needles, streams and freshwater springs, it’s time to take in a deep breath and go in search of cuckoo clocks. Yes, cuckoo clocks – the Black Forest is peppered with ancient villages and towns once famous for their manufacture. Go and check out a few of these elaborate timepieces whilst enjoying some true Black Forest hospitality including delicious breads and honey, jams or preserves washed down with some fabulous beers and wines.
