Gibraltar - Alameda Botanical Gardens

Gibraltar sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

Named after the Alamo poplar tree, the Alameda Botanical Gardens, opened in 1816 and are constantly being restored and upgraded to keep the gardens in tiptop shape. Woody in look, the gardens contain many Mediterranean olives and pines, Dragon Trees and Palms which have originated from the Atlantic Islands. Flowerbeds exhibit plants from other sub-tropical areas, including southern Africa and Australia. The more unusual plants growing at the gardens include the Australian Silk Oak, Cape Chestnut, Far Eastern Broad-leaved Podocarp and Californian Parkinsonia.
