Athens - Monastiraki

Each Sunday the area around Pondrousou Street is invaded by hordes of locals and tourists for the weekly Flea Market. Much of the action takes place behind the railway station on Avisynia Square where at the end of the day the stalls are replaced with tables and chairs as the cafes open for afternoon business and live music and street dancing is not unusual. Any day of the week it’s a great place to browse the plethora of intriguing shops, enjoy tasty snacks – you simply have to try the giant souvlakis of Metropolis Street. Legend has it that Monastiraki is also the best area in the entire City to buy sandals.
