Kavala - Mehmet Ali's Birthplace

Situated in the Seraidaris Garden as the Turkish House, the birthplace of Mehmet Ali. This wonderfully preserved building, with its fine panelling and carved wooden beams, was looked after by the Egyptian government until 1961 when the Greek Authorities took over responsibility. Below the house are both the stables and kitchen and above you’ll find Ali’s harem and the pasha’s quarters. There is a bronze statue of Ali in the small square just beyond the building below which a belvedere affords excellent views of Thassos.
