Guatemala - The National Palace

Guatemala sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

The palace was built around 1939, to satisfy the whims of President Jorge Ubico Castañeda and was made use of as the president and his ministers’ offices. Today, though the palace, with over 300 rooms is an art museum, whose collection of works by famous Guatemalan artists, was moved to Guatemala from Antigua, after Antigua’s terrible earthquakes. The interior has elaborate stairways and stained-glass windows creating a pleasurable contrast to the grimy city outside of its walls.
