For a truly emotional experience you should pay a visit to the Anne Frank House – a fascinating if sobering reminder of man’s inhumanity towards man. Situated in the centre of Amsterdam it is possible to visit the hiding place where Anne frank wrote her famous diary during the German occupation of Holland in WWII. Visitors will be shocked at how the family survived in such a small space for two years. The pages of the original diary are on display as part of a permanent exhibition and there are films shown of the furnished rooms of the annex (cleared by order of the Nazis) which give a good impression of how the place looked whilst the Franks were in hiding.
