The Rijksmuseum is amongst the very best museums in the world and maintains the most important collection of 15th to 19th century art in the Netherlands. Pride of place is taken by Dutch paintings from the Golden Age, the 17th century, in particular Rembrandt’s ‘The Night Watch’ and masterworks from Van Dijk, Vermeer, Potter and Hals etc. There is also a Print cabinet containing approximately 1 million prints and drawings from Dutch graphic artists of the 16th and 17th centuries with Rembrandt and his pupils especially well represented. Work from the international schools includes Dürer, Tiepolo, Goya and Toulouse-Lautrec. Other highlights include a large collection of sculpture and decorative arts from the Middle Ages to Jugendstil and Art Nouvea as well as a 16th century dollhouse, Japanese pottery and Dutch History department.
