Hungary - Meandering Through the Streets of Buda

Hungary sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

To the west of the City is the ancient old city of Buda, a mixture of Medieval and Neo-Classical structures that were almost completely rebuilt following their destruction during WWII. Dominated by the surrounding hills, the undulating cobbled streets are home to many of Budapest’s most important landmarks – St. Matthias Church, the Fisherman’s Bastion, the Roman spas and Royal Palace. The most interesting and most popular area is Castle Hill (home to the Palace), a labyrinth of medieval streets, with their fascinating buildings and numerous museums that can take a full day to explore. Fittingly, the area has been afforded UNESCO world Heritage site status, more or less guaranteeing its continued restoration and preservation.
