Hungary - The Narrow Gauge Railway from Miskolc into the Bukk Hills

Miskolc is certainly not a favourite tourist destination, a sprawling industrial city its redeeming face is that it sits at the foot of the wonderful Bukk Hills and it is from here you catch the United Forest Railways narrow gauge train into the countryside. The Forests of the Bukk Hills are known as the ‘world of the pusztas’ – the hunters, the nature lovers and the tourists. The scenery is delightful as you pass imposing white limestone crags towering above green forests, the highest peaks reaching 3280ft. Along the route the train stops at various small villages and hamlets scattered throughout the forest many of which are havens for tourists wishing to enjoy the idyllic country atmosphere and maybe get back to nature for a while.
