Iceland - Europe’s most powerful waterfall Dettifoss
Iceland sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

Dettifoss is by far the largest and most powerful waterfall in all of Europe. It has been said that after seeing Dettifoss, you will never be the same again and although this may be slightly dramatic, it certainly blows your mind. At 44m high, the 500 cubic metres of water that thunders over the waterfall per second comes from the Vatnajökull, the biggest glacier of Iceland. Double rainbows arc across the canyon in true Pollyanna-style and the plume of spray that shoots into the air can be seen from over a kilometre away. Dettifoss can be viewed from either bank although some favour the western bank as the whole face of the waterfall is visible as opposed to the side view you get from the east. Dettifoss represents another stunning example of Iceland’s beauty from the country’s catalogue of bountiful natural wonders – miss it, miss out.
