Morocco - Cascades D’Ouzoud

Morocco sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

Morocco’s most famous waterfalls and certainly the most spectacular, Cascades D’Ouzoud fall over 300ft into the river below. Part of their appeal is the ease of access with paths and steps that lead around the edges of the river pools and to the top of the falls themselves. The whole area is distinctly photogenic and the opportunities for picture postcard perfect snapshots are countless. The falls are essentially in two sections with a small lagoon about two thirds of the way down where you can swim safely and even try out the little boats. Along with the tourists, the falls are also visited by Barbary apes, which come down from the surrounding hills to bathe and drink.

Above the Cascade the hamlet of Et Tieta Ouzoud consists of a mere handful of houses. Rooms and food are available throughout the year, though most visitors prefer to camp. The surrounding area covered in lush olive plantations from which the name Ouzoud is derived (it means olive in Berber) and if you for some inexplicable reason tire of the falls it is a wonderful place to trek and enjoy a picnic.
