Built on hills above the bank of Río Paraguay, Asunción, is Paraguay's capital city. The area has low, balcony-style buildings and pretty orange trees that line its narrow streets. The best place for tourists to go though is by the riverfront, at Avenida Colón in the west, Estados Unidosin the east and Luis A Herrera in the south, all these areas provide an assortment of buildings from modern large malls and museums to the old, traditional ramshackle settlements found along the flood-prone riverfront and railway. The Gobierno Palace is also found near the riverfront, a building where at one time, anyone would be shot if they even stood gazing at the place!
