Paraguay - The Chaco

Paraguay sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

A place filled with barren plains, where populations of Indian tribes live. There is one paved highway within the area though and that is the Ruta Trans-Chaco, directing visitors to the religious community of Filadelfia. Other settlements within the area include Loma Plata, the oldest and most traditional, and Neu-Halbstadt, the perfect place to get some Indian crafts. Visitors can also head towards the Bolivian border, to Parque Nacional Defensores del Chaco, a thick, thorn forest which provides protected habitats for some of Paraguays most endangered wildlife, including ocelots, jaguars and pumas.
