Algarve - A Cycle along the Coastline at Sagres

Algarve sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

The coastline at Sagres is rugged and dramatic with it’s sheer cliffs beaten by strong Atlantic waves and a cutting ocean wind - all in all, perfect for a bracing cycle along what seems to be the very edge of Europe. The physical grandeur of Ponta de Sagres a giant finger of rock pointing to the ocean is peppered with fascinating buildings including a 15th century fortress and the church of Nossa Senhora da Graça, allegedly founded by Prince Henry the Navigator. From this promontory, the keen cyclist can take a steady ride up the rocky coast to Baleeira - a small picturesque fishing port. Ride past the crescent beach of Praia da Mareta just below the village for some wonderful views out across the Atlantic. A cycle along the scenic coastline at Sagres is guaranteed to blow away any cobwebs.
