Madeira - Spectacular Flora and Fauna

Madeira sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

The island of Madeira is overflowing with wonderful and breathtaking flora, from tumbling purple bougainvillea and arum lilies to a wide variety of orchids and beautiful heather like trees. The entire island is an ecologist’s paradise, regarded as an all year round "floating garden", and thanks to Madeira’s very favourable climate it is able to nurture rare flowers such as the famous Bird of Paradise and the Flamingo Flower. There are numerous parks and reserves including Santa Catarina Park, the Do Monte Municipal Gardens, Funchal Ecological Park, Ribeiro Frio Forest Park and Queimadas Forest Reserve all packed with the most amazing plant and animal life. The ground is peppered with lizards and the air buzzes with honeybees and butterflies - you may even catch site of a falcon. Madeira is a full of natural splendour.
