Moscow - The Kremlin and Red Square

Moscow sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

As the landmark symbols of Russia, The Kremlin and Red Square represent the very heart of Moscow. Indeed, the whole city’s layout of concentric circles and radial lines emanates from this very place. Constructed from beautiful Ural marble and glass in which the golden domes of the Cathedrals and the Kremlin’s nineteen towers are reflected, the Kremlin is a formidable building. Around the Kremlin’s Cathedral Square there are a number of cathedrals and museums including the Assumption, Archangel and Annunciation Cathedrals, the Church of the Deposition of the Robe, the Patriarch’s Palace and the Ivan – the Great Bell Tower. But, no-one should visit Moscow without wandering through the expansive Red Square outside the Kremlin’s northeast wall. Stroll across the old cobbles upon which so much history has occurred and be sure to check it out at night too, when the square is lit up with the imposing St Basil’s Cathedral rising up at the South end of the square.
