While touring Spain, a visit in and around Toledo is absolutely essential. The town itself is perched high on a hill with green waters of the Tajo River flowing on three sides of it. Toledo is truly a city of culture and history and one that hasn’t become a mecca for McDonald’s and Starbucks. Dubbed ‘the city of the three cultures’, Toledo is decorated by the remains of the Catholics, Jews and Muslims that once occupied this area in relative harmony. Within the walls of this spectacular town you can wander from the Plaza de Zocodover (the main square) down the winding, medieval alleyways to some spectacular sites including the San Juan de los Reyes, Alcazar and Museo de Santa Cruz. Also, visit the mosques, cathedrals and synagogues, all with their own story and intrigue. Toledo is Spain’s ultimate playground for the culture vulture, don’t miss out.
