Canary Islands - Barranco del Infierno – A walkers ravine in the Municipal of Adeje

Literally translated as ‘Hell’s Gorge’, this deep canyon brimming with lush verdana is anything but. Barranco del Infierno is a veritable oasis in the middle of the harsh, dry southern Tenerife landscape and is the only place on the island you will find natural running water. Trekkers can walk the entire stretch (there and back) in a mere two and a half hours so the unforgiving midday sun can be easily avoided. There are several viewing points along the path as the vertigo-inducing trail leads through vertical rock walls enclosing the lush greenery. There is a spectacular array of plants and vegetation including endemic species of Canary Islands. The reward at the end of the walk is a small waterfall - an unexpected but welcome sight in this walker’s paradise.
