Fuerteventura - Charming Betancuria Old Town

Fuerteventura sightseeing, attractions and online travel guide

The historical centre of Fuerteventura and quite literally the centre of the island is the charming old town of Betancuria. Once the capital of the island, the town is now just a reminder of years gone by. Its history is one of pirates and invasion; today the past is unfolded in the remaining inhabitants whose tales outline the heady days of Jean de Bethencourt, the founder of the settlement. Old ruins of a Franciscan monastery, the hovering Inglesia de Santa Maria and Museao de Arte Sacro are highlights of the town to be explored. If time and money are no object check out the pottery and weaving workshops set up at the main tourist complex.
